The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Wednesday isn't just a day, it's a state of mind. Michelle Visage, the American television personality and longtime fragrance devotee, brought her perspective to Arielle Shoshana's weekday collection. The collaboration centers on that midweek moment: past the week's beginning, before the weekend, where something a little darker and a little more magnetic feels appropriate. Cécile Hua built the composition around that specific energy, incense and smoke for the witchy hour, honeyed warmth to keep it wearable, woods to keep it grounded. The name came first, and the scent followed.
What makes Wednesday distinctive is the frankincense and Lapsang Souchong pairing. Smoke from tea and smoke from resin, two different sources of dark, aromatic smoke that don't compete so much as reinforce. The honey keeps the warmth present without making the fragrance sweet. The cedar and pine make sure the drydown doesn't float, it settles close and stays there. Six materials total, no layered accords or proprietary blends. The complexity comes from how they interact, not from how many of them there are.
The evolution
The opening announces itself immediately: smoke first, then the sharp, slightly bitter edge of frankincense cutting through. The Lapsang Souchong dominates the first minutes, campfire, slightly medicinal, with a tea note that adds an unexpected green undertone beneath the smoke. Cedar arrives quickly, dry and woody, providing contrast to the incense. After thirty minutes to an hour, the smoke softens. The honey emerges, bringing sweetness that rounds the edges. The pine adds a balsamic quality that deepens the heart. The frankincense persists but loses its sharpness. By the second to third hour, the drydown takes over: cedar and pine together, a woodsmoke that lingers close to the skin. The amber and honey create a warm base that holds the whole thing together without becoming sweet. Projection is above average initially, you'll be noticed, but settles into a more intimate presence within two to three hours. Longevity reaches into the four-to-six hour range on most skin types, with the drydown lasting until you wash it off.
Cultural impact
Wednesday x Michelle Visage landed in 2025 as a collaboration between Arielle Shoshana and the American television personality, bringing her first fragrance into the house's weekday collection. The composition leans into smoky-resinous territory, frankincense, Lapsang Souchong, honey, woods, positioning it as a niche fragrance for people who want something with real character rather than broad appeal.
