The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Spice Touch arrived in 2017, composed by perfumer Saud Malallah for Amber Oud. The fragrance draws on a perfumery tradition rooted in agarwood and amber as central materials, offering a wearer an experience built around warmth, depth, and the gravitational pull of two notes that have carried significance across generations of Arabian fragrance-making. In Spice Touch, those pillars are handled with a deliberate restraint, the composition opening with a clear, lifted citrus and spice accord before the agarwood and amber take their place in the base. The effect is a bridge between the older, more resinous traditions of the region and a contemporary approach that values balance and wearability.
What sets the structure of Spice Touch apart is how the spice and citrus are handled before the oud takes over. The citruses and spices work together to create a bright, almost lifted opening that gives the composition room to breathe before the heavier materials arrive. This kind of airy entry prevents the base from feeling like a closed door, and instead turns the transition into something you can actually follow with your nose from one stage to the next.
The evolution
The first spray is bright and almost candied, citrus zest cracking open alongside a dry, peppery warmth that reads more like a freshly ground spice than anything heavy or resinous. This is the lightest the fragrance will ever feel, and the window is short, somewhere in the first fifteen to twenty minutes. The citruses fade first, leaving the spice and the edges of the rose behind, and the composition pivots into something warmer and more floral. The rose here reads as a deep, almost jammy register rather than a fresh, dewy one, and the patchouli underneath pushes it toward something darker and more meditative. By the ninety-minute mark, the woods and the amber have moved up to take the middle position, and the rose becomes a thread rather than a statement.
Cultural impact
Spice Touch is composed in a way that places agarwood and amber at the center of the experience while still leaving room for citrus, spice, and rose to play significant roles in the opening and heart. By rendering agarwood and amber in a structure that opens with brightness before settling into layered spice and warm woods, the fragrance offers a take on these materials that feels suited to a wider range of wearing occasions than purely ceremonial applications.
