The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sharra Lamoureaux designed All Hallow's Eve 2019 as a scent that embodies the playful mischief of Halloween night. Drawing from Alkemia's long-standing reputation for ethical, incense-forward compositions established in 2009, she wanted to capture the duality of the holiday: the giddy sweetness of costumes and treats paired with something darker and more mysterious. The result is a fragrance that does not simply smell like candy, but rather like a candlelit room where sweets and shadows coexist.
The philosophy here centers on contrast: sweet and smoky, warm and slightly bitter, familiar yet unsettling. By pairing vanilla and caramel with black licorice and smoke, Lamoureaux creates a composition that reads as gourmand at first but reveals complexity upon closer acquaintance. The patchouli and tonka bean serve as the quiet backbone, making this fragrance suitable for cooler evenings when the sweetness can unfold without cloying.
The evolution
The journey begins with star anise and a subtle smoke note, creating an immediate sense of atmosphere. Within minutes, vanilla enters the picture alongside caramel and praline, transforming the aromatic opening into something warmer and more edible. As the hours pass, black licorice and marshmallow blend into the sweetness, while patchouli adds an earthy anchor that keeps the overall feel grounded. The drydown settles into amber and tonka bean, with the smoke still faintly present at the edges, ensuring the transition feels seamless rather than abrupt.
Cultural impact
All Hallow's Eve 2019 arrived as a limited‑edition autumn offering in 2019 and quickly earned a cult following among indie‑fragrance enthusiasts. Its daring blend of smoky gourmand and spice sparked lively discussions on forums, with many praising its holiday vibe while others debated the intensity of its lico rice. Though production ceased, the scent continues to circulate on secondary markets, cementing its status as a memorable, seasonal Alkemia staple.
