The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Love Potion arrived in 2024 as part of After Blow's catalogue, a release built around a fruit-sweet floral core of cherry, rose, and orange blossom, with a vanilla-amber base that softens the edges of the composition. The name does what it says, pointing straight at a scent that leans indulgent, confectionery-adjacent, and a little romantic in its delivery. The top notes of cherry and orange blossom read almost like the opening of a dessert, bright and sugared, before the rose threads through with a soft, jammy warmth. That floral heart settles into a base of vanilla and amber, where the sweetness mellows and gains depth, taking on a creamy, slightly resinous quality that keeps the whole thing grounded.
The interesting move here is the balance of weight. Cherry and orange blossom lean sugary, almost confectionery, and without restraint they tip into cloying. The musk and vanilla in the base pull the composition back toward something warmer and more grounded, so the sweetness reads as ripe fruit rather than candy. Rose sits at the center not as the star but as a bridge, lending a soft floral haze that connects the juicy top to the creamy bottom. It's a structure that borrows from both gourmand and floral traditions without committing fully to either.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes belong to the fruit. Tangerine adds a zesty brightness, pear softens it with something almost like biting into a ripe one, and the whole top reads fresh, easy, almost casual. Then the cherry arrives and the fragrance takes a turn. It deepens, gets denser, and the rose and orange blossom underneath start to pull the sweetness into something warmer and more floral. By the two-hour mark the vanilla and amber have settled into the foreground, leaving a soft, skin-close warmth that lingers. The musk holds everything together quietly. On fabric, the vanilla and cherry tend to stick around the longest, showing up the next morning as a faint, sweet trace. It doesn't project aggressively, and it doesn't need to. It wears close, like a thought you're only half-sharing.
Cultural impact
Love Potion sits in the sweet-floral zone where cherry and vanilla do most of the talking, two notes that carry instant recognition without straying into anything challenging. The composition reads approachable and pleasant, the kind of scent that slots into daily wear without requiring a particular setting or occasion. Cherry brings a syrupy, almost candied brightness to the top, while orange blossom softens the opening with a dewy, slightly honeyed floral lift.
