The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Aquatic Tidal Dream began with a single image: water meeting skin. The brief was simple, create something that felt like a transparent veil, present but never loud. Jérôme Epinette built it around three materials that do exactly that. Strawberry brings a soft juiciness, never overripe. Lotus keeps everything aquatic, serene, and slightly cool. Cedarwood holds the edges without competing. The result is a fragrance that accompanies rather than arrives.
What makes this structure interesting is the restraint. Strawberry and lotus could easily tip into saccharine territory, they're both materials that reward restraint, and cedarwood is what keeps them honest. It's not a base note that announces itself. It's a base note that refuses to leave, quietly anchoring the fruit and floral so they don't float away. The composition understands that some scents are meant to stay close.
The evolution
The opening arrives fast, strawberry hits immediately, bright and slightly green, like fruit floating on still water. There's no delay, no waiting. Within minutes the lotus takes over, aquatic and serene, and the strawberry softens into the background rather than fading entirely. They coexist. The drydown is where cedarwood earns its place. It doesn't storm in, it arrives quietly, warm and woody, and it's the note that outlasts everything else. On most skin types, the cedar holds for four to six hours while the fruit and lotus fade to a clean skin-close trace. On dry skin, the whole arc compresses, faster opening, earlier cedar, but still present. The next morning, there's a faint warmth at the pulse points. Not much. But enough to notice.
Cultural impact
Aquatic Tidal Dream landed in 2025 as Zara continued its push into the fragrance space with accessible, trend-driven scents. The strawberry-aquatic combination reflects a broader cultural moment where consumers seek fresh, fruit-forward fragrances that feel modern without the weight of traditional perfumery. Zara's approach, releasing frequent, affordable flankers and limited editions, mirrors fast fashion's rhythm, creating a sense of urgency and accessibility that traditional fragrance houses rarely achieve. This release sits alongside other 2025 entries like Zara Vibrant Leather and Zara Golden Hour, collectively expanding the brand's scent portfolio to capture seasonal moments and mood-driven purchases.
