The beginning
Addiction sits within a fragrance line built around a clear, confident sense of identity. The brand behind Everything is Words, and the collection treats scent as a primary expression rather than an accessory. Addiction was shaped to read as the spicy-sweet counterweight in the range, the one that leans into warmth and softness without leaning into spectacle. The brief seems to have been straightforward: heliotrope at the opening, clove and cinnamon threading through the middle, and a base of vanilla, styrax, gaiac wood, birch tar, and myrrh giving the whole thing gravity. What makes Addiction interesting is the restraint in that brief.
Heliotrope is the note that anchors the opening, carrying a soft, almond-like sweetness that pulls you in before anything else has time to register. Clove arrives quickly behind it, warm and slightly sharp, the kind of spice that feels medicinal in the best possible way. Cinnamon folds in next, rounding the clove into something more familiar, less austere. The heart is where the composition opens up. Styrax brings a resinous depth, sticky and almost incense-like, while gaiac wood adds a smoky dryness underneath.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are almost medicinal. Heliotrope leads, soft and almond-sweet, with clove already pushing forward behind it.
