The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Four perfumers, Yann Vasnier, Stephen Nilsen, Adriana Medina-Baez, and Quentin Bisch, built XO Victoria around a single tension: the warmth of a rose and the coolness of night-blooming orchid. Apple and citrus open the composition with brightness before the floral heart develops, with English ivy providing a green anchor to keep everything grounded and natural. The scent unfolds with a crisp, sparkling quality, the apple note lending a juicy sweetness while citrus adds an immediate lift. As the fragrance settles, the rose emerges with a dewy, romantic character while the orchid adds its distinctive cool, slightly powdery whisper.
The twilight orchid is the secret. A rare note that can only be captured at nightfall, making it genuinely unusual in perfumery. The orchid brings its cool, almost nocturnal quality against the sunny warmth of rose. Apple and citrus amplify the freshness, while English ivy adds a green, slightly aquatic undertone that keeps the sweetness from becoming cloying. It's spring energy, but considered spring energy, the kind that knows exactly what it's doing.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and fruity, apple and citrus doing exactly what they're supposed to. That clarity holds for the first 30 minutes or so, sharp and sparkling. Then the handoff: rose and orchid arrive together, the orchid's cool whisper tempering the rose's warmth. They settle into each other for the next few hours, the rose softening, the orchid keeping things interesting. English ivy is the quiet anchor throughout, green, fresh, slightly aquatic. By the drydown, you've got soft woody warmth and something that stays close to the skin. The projection evolves naturally as the top notes fade, allowing the floral heart to take center stage while the ivy continues to provide its steady green presence throughout the wear.
Cultural impact
XO Victoria marked a notable direction for Victoria's Secret, moving into compositions that valued crisp, natural-smelling florals over syrupy sweetness. The limited-edition release brought attention to a fresh-green rose direction that felt sophisticated and considered. The cool orchid and warm rose combination, grounded by green, slightly aquatic ivy, created a scent profile that stood apart from the brand's more traditional offerings. By presenting XO Victoria as a seasonal exclusive, the brand generated collector interest, with fragrance enthusiasts seeking out the composition for its distinctive character and artisanal feel.
