The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Love Spell arrived in the early 2000s as Victoria's Secret's answer to the fruity-floral obsession of that era, a cherry-peach-blossom cloud that became one of the brand's most recognizable flankers. By 2022, the brand had a formula for reimagining its greatest hits: take the name, strip it back, coat everything in gold. Love Spell Golden is the golden hour edition. The original's bright fruit is replaced by something warmer, honey, vanilla, a gilded amber that reads like late afternoon light through honey.
What makes Love Spell Golden interesting isn't the notes themselves (Victoria's Secret has done honey-vanilla before) but the balance. The nectarine in the top keeps it from becoming a pure dessert scent. Tamarind, sour, sticky, slightly exotic, adds an unexpected counterweight that most mass-market vanillas skip entirely. The result is sweet but not one-dimensional. Warm but not sleepy. This is the kind of composition that works because it doesn't try to impress anyone.
The evolution
Love Spell Golden opens bright. Nectarine hits first, that sun-ripened stone fruit, tangy and alive. Tamarind underneath keeps it honest, a slight tartness that stops the sweetness from going flat. Honey arrives within minutes, blending the edges into something warm and golden. The heart is where it earns its name. Vanilla and peach take over, wrapping everything in soft warmth. The drydown is the payoff: honeyed vanilla clinging close, amber giving it a slight glow, toasted almond providing a nutty warmth that lingers. This is a fragrance mist, the concentration is lighter than an EDP. What that means in practice: it stays close to the skin. Moderate sillage, no room-filling projection. But what it projects, it projects well. The honeyed warmth of Love Spell Golden lasts for several hours on most skin types, settling into something intimate and comfortable, the kind of scent you catch when you move your wrist close to your face.
Cultural impact
Love Spell Golden launched in 2022 as part of Victoria's Secret's Golden collection, reworked classics with gilded amber and honeyed warmth. The brand was in a period of repositioning during this era, moving toward a broader definition of femininity. Love Spell Golden fit that shift: warmer, softer, still unapologetically sweet.
