The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Vorrei means "I want" in Italian. The feeling it names is sudden, inconvenient desire, the kind that catches you off guard. Perfumer Maelstroem built this around that specific feeling: desire rendered in notes that shouldn't coexist but somehow do. Mint grows beside a guard-rail. Jasmine blooms near exhaust. The fragrance translates that collision into something wearable, something that earns its place on skin.
What makes Vorrei work is the collision it refuses to resolve. Gasoline and milk sit at opposite ends of the comfort spectrum, one evokes mechanics, roadside grit, something industrial. The other evokes warmth, skin, something intimate. Adding jasmine and aldehydes to the mix doesn't smooth things over. It amplifies the tension. The aldehydes give the gasoline a metallic shimmer, a brightness that cuts through the fumes. Jasmine keeps the milk from becoming too soft. The combination creates something unexpected, a fragrance that holds contradiction without choosing a side.
The evolution
The mint hits first, bright and green against something sharper underneath. The gasoline announces itself within minutes, not overwhelming, but present, unavoidable. Then the jasmine emerges, white and soft, tempering the industrial edge with something almost floral. The milk arrives quietly, adding warmth that tempers the harsh opening. As time passes, the leather becomes more pronounced, with incense and vetiver grounding everything. The drydown is where Vorrei settles into its most interesting territory: smoke, patchouli, and a lingering warmth that stays close to the skin. The gasoline note persists subtly throughout, absorbed into the base rather than disappearing entirely. On skin, the jasmine-milk combination leaves a quiet, intimate trail.
Cultural impact
Venti4 occupies an interesting position in contemporary niche perfumery. Vorrei fits differently than its 2021 siblings, the tension between gasoline and white floral creates something distinct. It's a fragrance for people who want scent to register, to say something. The synthetic-green character has its admirers and its skeptics, but both agree on the longevity. Vorrei announces presence without needing to argue for it.
