Loud for Him arrived in 2010 as part of a fragrance duo from Tommy Hilfiger, one for men and one for women, both built around the same central idea: music. The brand partnered with Givaudan's Aurélien Guichard and Yann Vasnier to execute it. The brief was rock 'n' roll, but the Tommy Hilfiger kind, the kind that grew up wearing denim and never needed to prove anything. The bottle design reinforced the concept: two flacons shaped like vinyl records, the men's version a transparent black with silver stoppers that looked like stereo knobs. Everything about the launch said volume. The scent said something else entirely.
The composition hinges on an unusual pairing: patchouli and rose. In perfumery, patchouli usually plays bass, deep, earthy, grounding. Rose is soprano, bright, floral, emotional.
