The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Dua Brand launched The Shit in 2021 through its Inspired Expression line. Perfumer Mahsam Raza composed it as part of the house's ongoing catalog of compositions. The fragrance sits in the Oriental Fougere family, pulling together a bright citrus-spice opening and a warm, resinous base that leans into the sweet, powdery territory the line is known for. The opening reads sharp and immediate, with Amalfi lemon, bergamot, and mandarin cutting through a layer of green cardamom that adds a cool, slightly peppery snap. As those top notes settle, the heart introduces a white floral accord built around jasmine, lily of the valley, and orange blossom, all of it warmed by cinnamon and rounded out by the soft, almond-like sweetness of heliotrope.
What makes the composition work is the weight balance. The citrus top notes (Amalfi lemon, bergamot, mandarin) are sharpened rather than softened by cardamom, so the opening reads crisp instead of generic shower-fresh. The heart then layers white florals (jasmine, lily of the valley, orange blossom) against cinnamon and heliotrope, a powdery floral-spice accord that feels deliberately nostalgic, pulling toward the powdery, sweet-spiced tradition of the Oriental Fougere family. Tonka and vanilla arrive early enough to soften the edges before the base settles into patchouli and sandalwood.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are all about the citrus-cardamom collision. Bright, sharp, almost effervescent, with the cinnamon lurking just under the surface like a threat. By the thirty-minute mark the florals have surfaced, and the orange blossom does most of the talking, sweet and slightly soapy, the heliotrope lending a marzipan undertone that keeps things from going clean. Around the two-hour mark the citrus is essentially gone, and the composition reads warmer, heavier, with tonka and vanilla building a creamy sweetness over a patchouli-sandalwood floor. The drydown is where the fragrance settles into its final shape: powdery, sweet, woody, with vanilla doing the heavy lifting and patchouli anchoring everything from below. As the hours pass, the sandalwood becomes more present, adding a creamy, slightly milky softness that rounds out the sharper edges of the earlier stages.
Cultural impact
The Shit fits into The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, where the house leans into irreverent naming. Within that context it reads as a warm spicy-citrus composition built on a bright opening of Amalfi lemon, bergamot, and mandarin sharpened by green cardamom, with cinnamon and heliotrope adding a powdery, almond-sweet warmth through the heart. The base of tonka, vanilla, patchouli, and sandalwood grounds the whole thing in a creamy, resinous sweetness that holds close to the skin.
