Why it exists.
The beginning
The Moment arrived in 2025 from The Dua Brand's Original Blend Collection. Perfumer Mahsam Raza composed it as an oriental spicy leather, building the scent around tension: rose against smoke, sweetness against char, fruit against ash. The result reads less like a fragrance and more like a still frame from a film noir, the moment a character decides something irreversible. It's a composition that knows exactly what it wants to be and refuses to soften the edges for anyone. The opening registers as almost confrontational, a burst of spice and smoke that refuses to introduce itself politely. Mahsam Raza structures the accord like a film editor might structure a scene, placing contrast at the center and daring the wearer to sit with it.
What makes The Moment distinctive is the collision between Taif rose and birch tar, a material that smells like a fireplace the morning after. Most rose-forward fragrances lean polished. This one leans scorched. The saffron adds a metallic glint that catches the light between the rose petals and the leather, while black rose absolute deepens everything with a wine-dark undertone. It's a risky balance, and it's held together by labdanum and patchouli doing structural work in the background, keeping the smoke from overwhelming the flower.
The evolution
The opening hits fast: rose and saffron arrive first, sharpened by black pepper and incense, giving the initial phase a bright, almost aggressive energy. That brightness softens as plum skin and Taif rose settle into the heart, replacing the initial sparkle with something darker and more viscous, like fruit left in a glass of port. The leather and birch tar take over as the composition progresses, building a thick, smoky foundation that smells closer to a saddle left by a fire than anything traditionally floral. Patchouli and labdanum anchor the structure, keeping the heavy materials from collapsing into pure char. As the drydown settles, charred wood and oud emerge, quiet but persistent, clinging to skin like the ghost of the earlier drama. A faint trace of rose and incense remains much later, softer and more intimate than anything the fragrance promised at the start.
Cultural impact
The Moment borrows the rose-and-oud vocabulary of Middle Eastern perfumery but pushes the smoke dial further than most compositions in that tradition. The saffron and leather give it a richness that feels rooted in Arabian fragrance culture, yet the birch tar and black rose absolute pull it toward something more European in sensibility, closer to a Parisian leather atelier than a Gulf-side oud palace. The character it projects is not warm and inviting but watchful, a scent for someone who wants to be remembered rather than liked on first encounter.
