The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Singularity launched as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a series that reimagines high-end compositions for a wider audience. This one draws from an iconic gourmand scent by House of Sillage. The composition is rendered as an extrait concentration, which explains why it shows up strong and stays that way. On skin, the opening carries a burst of cinnamon and clove that reads almost fizzy before tonka and vanilla bean settle in to soften the edges. The spice stays present, never disappearing into the sweetness, and ginger keeps a bright thread alive at the top while the warmer base notes gather underneath. The result is a fragrance that opens with energy and resolves into something dense, warm, and unmistakably gourmand.
What makes Singularity work is the balance between two competing forces. Cinnamon and vanilla want to drift into dessert territory, sweet and one-note. The oud, mahogany, cedar, and amber anchor those spice notes into something with furniture and finish. The clove and ginger add aromatic lift at the edges, keeping the sweetness from going flabby. The oud here doesn't announce itself as a regional statement; it sits in the background, smoky and a little animalic, giving the woods a reason to feel weighty rather than just dry.
The evolution
The opening arrives loud. Cinnamon and clove hit first, bright and almost fizzy, with ginger cutting through underneath. That initial phase reads closer to a spiced candy, a sharp, sugary hit that announces the composition before it has time to settle. The vanilla bean and tonka bean arrive quickly to sweeten the edges, rounding off the spice and pulling the scent toward something creamier. Oud shows up not as a Middle Eastern statement but as a quiet anchor, giving the composition depth without taking over. Mahogany and cedar form a wood floor beneath the spice, adding a polished, structural quality that keeps the sweetness from floating away. The drydown is where this lives: amber, vanilla, and residual cinnamon hold close to skin, creating a low, warm glow that persists without shouting.
Cultural impact
Singularity occupies a recognizable place within the Inspired Expression catalog, where compositions are organized around the idea of taking a luxury reference and rebuilding it with adjusted materials. The fragrance fits into a broader conversation in the fragrance community about accessibility, where collectors and enthusiasts compare interpretations of well-known originals across different houses. Oud-vanilla-cinnamon compositions have become a small genre of their own in recent years, with multiple houses offering their own readings of the combination, and Singularity is part of that ongoing dialogue.
