The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sea Pirates II launched in 2023 from The Dua Brand's Designer Line, a collection built around inspired-expression compositions. Perfumer Mahsam Raza shaped this one as an amber floral with a juicy citrus opening and a rich floral-woody backbone. The name carries the brand's sense of adventure, a gesture toward high-seas romance without slipping into costume. Released as a vegan formulation, it sits in a catalog that prizes accessibility without sacrificing the architecture of a more ambitious scent. The result is a composition that opens light and lands heavy, pear and bergamot catching the morning air before the creamy florals and grounded woods take over.
What makes this composition work is the layering. Pear and bergamot form a bright, almost edible top, but the heart doesn't stay sweet. Tuberose and ylang-ylang bring a creamy, almost tropical density, while jasmine adds the green, indolic edge that keeps the florals from going flat. Patchouli slides in early and stays for the ride, anchoring the white flowers with an earthy hum that most fruity-florals skip. The base of ambergris, cedar, and white musk closes it out with mineral warmth and clean wood.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes belong to pear. Bright, almost fizzy, with bergamot snapping beside it. Then the florals arrive, not gradually, but like someone opened a window into a garden at dusk. Tuberose comes forward first, creamy and dense, then jasmine threads through with its sharper green note. Ylang-ylang rounds the heart into something golden and tropical. By the two-hour mark the patchouli has found its footing and the composition shifts register. The fruit is gone. The florals fade to a whisper. What remains is ambergris and cedar, with white musk holding the edges together. As the hours pass, that base settles closer to the skin, the cedar softening and the ambergris lending a saline, slightly animal warmth that reads less like a distinct note and more like an atmosphere.
Cultural impact
Sea Pirates II joined The Dua Brand's Designer Line in 2023, a release that put pear, bergamot, and a dense white-floral heart at the center of an amber-floral composition built on an accessible price point. The pairing of bright fruit with creamy tuberose, jasmine, and ylang-ylang gave collectors a composition that wears well in warm weather without sliding into the heavier oriental territory the catalog sometimes occupies.
