The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Popcorn Crunch Brownies arrived in 2025 from The Dua Brand, the house that has carved out a name in gourmand fragrance. This particular release belongs to the Inspired Expression collection, also referred to as the Dua Designer Line. The fragrance itself is described as smelling similar to Maison Mataha's Brownie Pop, and the name does most of the storytelling. Popcorn crunch, brownie richness. There's no mystery in the marketing, and that's the point. The composition leans into an edible, warm profile built around a stack of accords: sweet, woody, vanilla, nutty, warm spicy, powdery, and chocolate. It's an unusual lineup for a gourmand, with the woody and powdery elements working alongside the more obvious sugar notes.
What makes this composition worth attention isn't the sweetness itself. It's the sandalwood. The woody, creamy sandalwood note in the base lifts the whole thing out of pure sugar territory and into something with real depth. The combination of hazelnut and popcorn is also a deliberate choice. Popcorn adds a salty, airy lift that prevents the chocolate from going flat, while hazelnut brings the buttery depth that holds the whole blend together. The accords tell the same story: sweet, woody, vanilla, nutty, warm spicy, powdery, chocolate.
The evolution
The first spray hits like a confectioner's counter. Brown sugar and cookie arrive together, warm and crackling. Within minutes, the popcorn note pushes through, bringing a salty, buttered edge that catches you off guard. It's the kind of opening that makes people nearby lean in and ask what that is. By the thirty-minute mark, chocolate and vanilla settle in as the heart takes over. The hazelnut deepens here, turning richer and almost praline-like. The popcorn softens but never fully disappears. It stays as a textural hum underneath everything, a salted thread running through the sweetness. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its keep. Sandalwood arrives quietly and takes over the base. The sugar fades but never fully leaves. What remains is a warm, woody-cream scent that reads more like skin than like dessert.
Cultural impact
Worn in practice, Popcorn Crunch Brownies tends to attract a wearer who isn't precious about being subtle. The sandalwood base gives it enough sophistication to keep the composition from reading as a novelty, and the powdery accord adds a soft, almost suede-like veil that smooths out the sweetness. The result is a scent that can be worn casually, but it carries enough depth to hold up in cooler settings where richer fragrances tend to perform best. The sandalwood does quiet work here.
