The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza composed Moroccan Royalty in 2025, a floral-woody unisex piece built around a single idea: citrus and oud in the same breath. Neroli, orange, and eucalyptus supply the brightness, lifting the composition with a clean, herbaceous clarity. Clary sage, amber, cashmeran, oud, and bourbon vanilla build the structure beneath it, layering resinous sweetness against that airy top. The Dua Brand placed it in the Inspired Expression collection, a line that houses the brand's more approachable, lighter takes on classic perfumery themes. The fragrance reads as a regal name worn casually rather than ceremoniously, designed for everyday skin rather than special occasions.
What makes this composition unusual is the deliberate gap between top and base. Neroli and eucalyptus are cold, camphoraceous, almost medicinal in their clarity. Oud and bourbon vanilla are the opposite: dense, resinous, sweet. Most florals choose one direction. This one splits the difference and lets both sides talk at once. Cashmeran bridges them, acting as a translator between the bright opening and the creamy base. The result reads as cool on first spray, warm an hour later, and quietly complex in between.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are the loudest. Neroli and orange cut through with a sharp, almost bitter brightness, while eucalyptus adds a clean, mentholated edge. It smells like a cold morning in a warm place, all sparkling citrus laced with that cool herbal snap. Around the 30-minute mark, clary sage and amber start to round the edges. The citrus loses its bite and becomes softer, more floral, drifting toward something closer to dried petals than fresh peel. Cashmeran steps in around the second hour, bringing a woody-musk velvet that makes the composition feel like fabric against skin, something you want to lean into rather than wave away. By hour three, the oud and bourbon vanilla have taken over completely. What was cool and bright is now warm and sweet, with a soft resinous hum underneath that pulses gently rather than announces itself.
Cultural impact
Moroccan Royalty sits inside The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a line that gathers the brand's lighter, more wearable reworkings of classic perfumery conventions. The composition itself is a citrus-oud study, pairing the bright, herbal clarity of neroli, orange, and eucalyptus against the resinous depth of oud and bourbon vanilla. That contrast does a lot of the work: the top reads cool and almost medicinal, while the base leans warm and sweet, and the clary sage, amber, and cashmeran in the middle keep both registers in play.
