The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Magnetic Moon arrived in 2022 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection. This one draws from Atelier des Ors' Lune Féline, a composition celebrated for its magnetic spice-and-amber duality. That tension is the whole point: warmth pulling against something cooler, resinous sweetness set against dry heat. The fragrance leans into that contrast hard. Cardamom and cinnamon crack open the top, sharp and almost granular, before the green thread beneath them surfaces, faint and leafy, like something crushed underfoot. As the hours pass, the opening softens into styrax and Peru balsam, stickier and deeper, with the pepper retreating into the background. Cedar takes over the architecture, and the Tahitian vanilla appears in warm patches on the inner wrist and the neck.
What makes the structure worth rebuilding is the balance between heat and resin. Cardamom and pink pepper bring a dry, almost peppery brightness. Cinnamon softens that edge into something sweeter, while Peru balsam and styrax add a sticky, almost candied depth that keeps the spices from going sharp. The Tahitian vanilla underneath doesn't sweeten so much as round everything out, giving the composition a creamy undertone. Cedar and woody notes lock it in. Ambergris and musk do the quiet work of making the whole thing feel skin-warm rather than perfume-y.
The evolution
The opening is the loudest part. Cardamom hits first, dry and bright, almost snapping. Cinnamon follows within seconds, and the combination reads sharp, warm, slightly sweet. There's a green note underneath, faint, like a leaf caught under the spice. Soon the top starts to fold inward. Styrax and Peru balsam take over, and the whole thing gets stickier, deeper, more resinous. The pepper doesn't disappear; it just moves backward in the mix. Eventually, the cedar becomes the backbone. The Tahitian vanilla surfaces in patches, especially on warm spots like the inner wrist and neck. In the later hours, what's left is a soft, woody-amber warmth with a faint trail of cinnamon. On fabric hours later: a clean, almost sweet cedar scent with a ghost of vanilla. The opening is bold. The drydown is a whisper. The middle is where it earns its name.
Cultural impact
It leans unisex but tends to read warmer on skin, which makes it a natural pick for fall and winter wardrobes rather than warm-weather rotation. Among fans of amber-vanilla and resinous compositions, it's often cited as a go-to when the original inspiration feels out of reach. The extrait concentration means the scent has more body and presence than a lighter formulation, and a little goes further in terms of sillage and staying power. There's a reason compositions in this vein hold their ground in colder months: the resin and the spice are designed to cut through wool, scarves, heavy knits. Magnetic Moon fits that lane cleanly.
