The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Into The Woods is a love letter written in reverse. The Dua Brand built a catalog that, over the years, found a particular specialty in bringing back scents people remembered but couldn't find anymore. Into The Woods is one of those resurrections. It reaches back to a specific Abercrombie & Fitch formulation called Woods, a late-90s mall-aisle staple that earned a strange reputation: dismissed as a mall scent by critics, yet worn by people who never stopped thinking about it. The original formulation has been gone for years. Into The Woods puts the same architecture back together, lavender and vetiver and musk wrapped in just enough spice to feel intentional rather than accidental.
It draws on a confident aromatic tradition, built around a lavender note that leads rather than follows, and finished with a vetiver-and-musk drydown that stays close enough to feel personal. The opening was clearly designed to wake the wearer up with a burst of citrus brightness, almost like stepping out of a shaded cabin into morning sun, before the warmer spices and herbs settle in.
The evolution
The opening is almost defiant in its brightness. Citruses arrive first, sharp and uncomplicated, a hit of something that reads cold and clean against the skin. Lavender doesn't wait politely in the background. It steps in within minutes, herbal in character, bending the citrus into something more composed. The spice layer is subtle here, not a punch, more like the warmth you pick up when you press your nose to a wool sweater someone just took off. That's the opening phase, brisk and confident. As the composition continues to develop, vetiver takes the wheel. It doesn't bulldoze the lavender, it grounds it, pulling the composition downward into something drier, earthier, more deliberate. The lavender loses its clean edge and gains a woody, almost rugged quality. Musk starts to surface as the hours pass, soft and skin-like, blending with the vetiver until the two become indistinguishable.
Cultural impact
Into The Woods sits in a specific corner of fragrance culture: the recreation space. It draws directly on the legacy of the original Abercrombie & Fitch Woods, a late-90s release that earned a quiet but devoted following. The fragrance was easy to overlook in its time, dismissed as a mall scent by critics and fragrance writers, yet worn by people who never quite found anything that replaced it after it disappeared from shelves. Into The Woods belongs to that lineage. It doesn't just reference the original, it rebuilds the same composition with lavender, vetiver, and musk, wrapped in a citrus and spice opening that mirrors the source.
