The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Frequency Of Santal arrives in 2026 from The Dua Brand, with perfumer Mahsam Raza shaping a woody spicy composition around a single idea: sandalwood that does not need to shout. Released within The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression lineup, the formula keeps its focus tight across six listed notes without piling on extras. Each ingredient earns its place: nutmeg at the top, milky and orris at the heart, sandalwood, musk, and vanilla anchoring the base. The fragrance reads like a signal carried on a low frequency, shaped for the wearer to notice rather than the room to catch. There is no projection trick, no trick at all, just the patience of a composition that believes in its own materials and lets them do what they already do well, only together.
The pyramid is short on purpose. Nutmeg brings a warm, almost edible sweetness at the entry, its spice reading more like baked warmth than sharp pepper, settling quickly into skin. Orris root arrives at the heart with its powdery, elegant character intact, lending weight and a cool, dry lift without leaning into the floral territory orris sometimes drifts toward. It behaves more like a binding agent than a featured note, smoothing the edges between what came before and what is coming.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are the brightest the fragrance gets. Nutmeg carries a gentle warmth, almost woody, nothing sharp. The milky accord lifts it briefly, then orris takes over and the whole thing tilts powdery, like the surface of a raw iris rhizome pressed between fingers. The composition loses its spice within the hour and settles into something quieter, more velvety. By hour three, the sandalwood has fully taken the wheel, rounded out by vanilla that never crosses into sweetness. Musk closes the loop and keeps everything close to skin. Hours four through six bring a slow fade where the sandalwood thins to its essence, the vanilla hums faintly underneath, and the musk keeps whatever is left tethered to the body. By hour eight most of the structure has receded, leaving only the softest cream-and-wood suggestion moving with movement.
Cultural impact
Within The Dua Brand's 2026 Inspired Expression lineup, Frequency Of Santal positions itself as a sandalwood composition that resists ornamentation. Where many woody fragrances lean on heavy additions to amplify their presence, this one isolates the sandalwood note and surrounds it with restraint: a touch of nutmeg for warmth, milky notes and orris for softness and powder, vanilla for sweetness held in check, and musk for skin-level intimacy. The result is a sandalwood scent that reads as deliberate rather than decorative, closer in spirit to a study of one material than a showcase of many.
