Mahsam Raza put his name on this one in 2023, and the brief looks straightforward on paper: tropical fruit, marine breeze, creamy coconut, sandalwood underneath. But Exotic Hammer isn't a single-note vacation in a bottle. It's the smell of a specific kind of afternoon, the one where you're two drinks deep and the breeze off the water has gone warm. The Dua Brand built its name deconstructing high-end compositions, and this one is part of their Inspired Expression collection. Translation: it's a study, a riff, a gesture toward a mood rather than a place. The composition sits squarely in that space where sweet and salty almost touch, which is rarer than it sounds.
What makes the composition work isn't the fruit, it's what surrounds it. White rum isn't a flavor note here, it's a structural choice. It bridges the juicy mango and pineapple top with the creamy coconut heart, giving everything a subtle boozy warmth that prevents the tropical notes from going flat or candy-like. The marine notes thread through the heart like a current beneath the surface. Without that salt-and-water shimmer, the coconut milk and white flowers would collapse into something too dessert-heavy. There's a flash of menthol-adjacent coolness from the marine notes that makes the whole top read like the moment you step out of AC into humid air. Then the heart rolls in. Coconut milk softens everything, adding a buttery weight to the fruit that was just sharp enough to feel electric. White flowers open quietly alongside, not loud, more like perfume carried on someone's skin three bar stools down. White rum adds that low amber sweetness underneath, never declaring itself but changing the temperature of everything it touches.
Cultural impact
Part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, Exotic Hammer occupies a recognizable lane with its tropical-and-aquatic combination, but the white rum and sandalwood base give it a warmer foundation than lighter compositions typically offer.
