The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Dua Brand launched Drowning in Caramel Cherry Delight in 2021 as part of their Inspired Tribrid collection, a line that draws from three heavyweights in modern perfumery: the boozy cherry richness of Tom Ford's Lost Cherry, the vanilla-caramel architecture of Nishane's Ani, and the gourmand sweetness of Xerjoff's Lira. All three are blended into a single extrait de parfum concentration housed in a 30 ml bottle, making the release a dense, syrupy affair from the moment it touches skin. The extrait strength means the scent arrives heavy and stays close, coating the wearer in a layered sweetness that reads as much confection as it does cologne.
What makes this composition interesting isn't any single note but the sheer density of the sweet-spicy axis. Cherry appears in multiple forms, including black cherry, griotte syrup, and cherry liqueur, layered alongside different vanillas and caramelized elements. The inclusion of roasted tonka bean and bitter almond adds a marzipan bitterness that keeps the sweetness from collapsing into one-note sugar. The marzipan note acts almost as a counterweight, introducing an almondy, slightly pharmaceutical edge that keeps the confection in check.
The evolution
The first ten minutes smell like someone cracked open a jar of griotte syrup next to a vat of vanilla extract, boozy and almost aggressive in its sweetness. Blood orange and bergamot try to cut through but barely make a dent, their citrus brightness swallowed almost immediately by the sheer weight of what surrounds them. Within thirty minutes, the cherry liqueur and bitter almond settle into the composition's center, joined by jasmine sambac, Turkish rose, and a soft dusting of pink pepper and cardamom. The florals here are not a bouquet; they are texture, adding a creamy, almost powdered dimension. Jasmine and rose blend into the vanilla base rather than standing apart, giving the heart a soft, suede-like quality.
Cultural impact
Within the fragrance community, Drowning in Caramel Cherry Delight draws attention for its ambitious combination of three well-known gourmand compositions into a single bottle. The scent leans into density and sweetness, offering a heavy-hitting blend that prioritizes richness over subtlety. It appeals to wearers who appreciate the gourmand family and want to experience familiar scent profiles reinterpreted together rather than individually.
