The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Clear Marine Sea arrived in 2022 from The Dua Brand, a house that develops its own versions of established scent profiles. This one draws from the same waters as Bvlgari Aqva, pulling the mineral marine character of the original into a new composition bottled as Extrait de Parfum, a concentration tier that typically gives a fragrance more hours of life on skin than lighter formulations. The goal was to preserve that cold-water clarity, the bracing salt-and-herbal feel that made the original a reference point, without losing the structure to something thinner or shorter-lived. The name says exactly what it means: clear, marine, sea.
What's worth noticing here is how few notes the composition actually needs. Nine ingredients carry the entire structure, and each one earns its place. Grapefruit and mandarin hit first as citrus, then settle into the heart as something greener, more herbal. Petitgrain and neroli keep that coastal thread taut while seaweed and rosemary handle the marine accord, salt from the seaweed, pine-cool clarity from the rosemary, a pairing that does real work to keep the water note from collapsing into something flat or synthetic.
The evolution
The opening is loud. Grapefruit cracks open against neroli's bitter-floral edge, bright and almost bracing, the kind of cold-shower rush that says morning swim rather than warm breeze. Petitgrain rides underneath, giving that citrus a leafy backbone before it can turn soapy. As the minutes pass, the grapefruit softens and the composition tilts. Rosemary comes forward with its camphorated clarity, sharp and herbal, and the seaweed note finally shows its hand, briny, vegetal, unmistakably marine. This is the phase that defines the fragrance. It smells like cold water on a hot day, like the air above a tidepool, all green salt and clean herbal bite. The neroli is still there, keeping the whole marine picture from going too austere. Eventually the rosemary recedes and the base takes over.
Cultural impact
Clear Marine Sea sits within the Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, a series that translates established luxury compositions into the house's own vocabulary. The original reference point, Bvlgari Aqva, became a touchstone for masculine aquatic fragrances after its launch, and compositions in that genre still echo its marine-mineral character. What this version adds is concentration and longevity, moving the juice into Extrait de Parfum territory, a tier that typically gives a fragrance more hours of life on skin than lighter formulations like eau de toilette.
