The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza composed Banana Cocoa Indulgence for The Dua Brand, a gourmand-leaning composition built around banana, cocoa, and a warm amber base. The fragrance draws clear inspiration from Hazel Split by Snif, a scent that paired banana and chocolate in a way that felt sophisticated rather than childish. The Dua Brand's approach here leans into reconstruction with care, taking a beloved profile and making it accessible without sanding off what makes the original memorable. The opening hits with that banana-cocoa sweetness, creamy and almost edible, before the warmer notes settle in and give it depth. There's a plushness to the way the notes layer, the banana leading, the cocoa threading through, and the amberwood anchoring everything below.
What gives this composition its character is how the notes interact. Banana appears prominently in both the opening and the heart, giving it a presence that anchors the fragrance rather than fading into the background. Hazelnut and Nutella merge with the cocoa to create a roasted, almost praline-like depth, the kind of richness that reads more like toasted nut than flat chocolate. Coconut adds a creaminess that feels smooth and milky, lending a dairy softness that keeps the composition from veering tropical or sharp.
The evolution
Banana and coconut arrive together in the opening, almost like the top of a thick smoothie, with a dusting of chocolate already visible underneath. There's a creaminess that reads edible, the kind of sweetness that makes you instinctively check whether you're wearing something or eating it. As the first minutes pass, that initial brightness softens and the banana begins to shift into something riper, warmer, more caramelized in character. The hazelnut starts to surface, and the Nutella accord reveals itself as less sugary spread and more toasted nut, carrying a faint bitterness that keeps things from going flat. The coconut continues to lend its dairy smoothness, threading through the chocolate and hazelnut like a binding agent. From there, the amberwood takes over as the central player.
Cultural impact
Banana Cocoa Indulgence enters a gourmand landscape where banana and chocolate have become recurring notes, a combination that gained traction partly through fragrances like Hazel Split by Snif, which brought the pairing into more sophisticated territory. The Dua Brand's version leans into this established territory while adding a woody dimension through its amberwood base, which gives the composition a warmer, more grounded character than some purely sweet interpretations. The fragrance appeals to wearers drawn to dessert-level comfort but who want enough amber and musk underneath to carry the scent beyond casual settings.
