The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza composed AI Summer Night in 2024, and the concept carries a quiet, unexpected poetry: a single scent that captures both halves of a summer day, the bright, buzzing stretch of afternoon and the cooler, quieter hush that arrives after sunset. The idea of a fragrance that lives in the in-between, that holds the sun and the moon in one bottle, gives the composition its shape and its tension. Raza builds that arc through a layered structure, opening with citrus that snaps awake on the skin, moving through a green, cooling heart where mint and violet leaf cut through the heat, and finishing in a base of tobacco, incense, and resin that wraps the whole thing in shadow.
What makes this composition unusual is its ambition within a single bottle. The note list reads like two different fragrances stacked on top of each other. Bergamot, lemon, mint, pear, and jasmine form a luminous, almost cocktail-bright opening. Then cedar, orris root, violet leaf, and tobacco leaf pull the temperature down and the texture rougher. The base settles into amber, leather, patchouli, oakmoss, vanilla, frankincense, and sandalwood, a full resinous, woody foundation that could carry a cold-weather fragrance on its own.
The evolution
The opening is a bright, almost fizzy affair. Bergamot and lemon lead, with mint threading through like a cold drink on a hot afternoon. Pear softens the edges just enough to keep it from reading as a straightforward cologne. That crisp character hangs on well into the early stretch before the heart starts to register. Jasmine and orris root bring a slightly powdery, suede-like quality, and violet leaf adds a green snap that feels like crushed stems, bright and a little cool, the kind of note that makes the whole composition feel aerated. Tobacco leaf joins the picture at some point, adding a dry, hay-like warmth without smoke, the kind of tobacco that reads more like sun-dried leaf than ash. The base then takes over, rich and grounding. Amber and vanilla lay down a warm sweetness, while patchouli and oakmoss anchor everything in damp earth.
Cultural impact
AI Summer Night arrived in 2024 as a single composition that aims to do something specific: capture both ends of a summer day in one bottle. The fragrance moves from a bright, citrus-led opening into a resinous, tobacco-laced base, an arc that gives it a built-in versatility across the hours. The opening brings bergamot, lemon, mint, and pear, the kind of combination that reads as crisp and awake, while the base settles into amber, vanilla, patchouli, oakmoss, leather, and frankincense for a warmer, smoky close. That range, from sparkling to contemplative, makes the scent feel like it belongs in more than one setting.
