The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
When Mahsam Raza set out to bottle a scene for The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression line, the reference was clear: render the experience of desert light on stone into something wearable. Launched in 2024, 45 Reflections Of The Desert draws its architecture from Amouage's Reflection 45, but the execution belongs to Raza's own hand, a study in atmospheric translation. The collection houses fragrances built around atmospheric inspiration. This one leans on a generous pour of resinous materials, layered with aromatics that lift and complicate the composition. The result is a scent that feels sculpted by heat, where every note earns its place through contrast and density rather than decoration.
What makes this composition unusual is the sheer density of resinous materials sharing space with delicate aromatics. Frankincense, myrrh, opoponax, and benzoin all live in the heart alongside jasmine and orris root, a layering that feels almost architectural in its ambition. Clary sage and lavender provide an herbal coolness that keeps the warmer notes in check, while pink pepper and cardamom add the faintest prickle of warmth across the surface. Neroli in the opening keeps everything from sinking under its own weight, holding the structure aloft through sheer brightness.
The evolution
The opening phase pairs frankincense and neroli in a way that feels luminous, the citrus oils pulling brightness through the heavier resin. Then the heart takes over and the resins deepen, opoponax and benzoin folding into tonka bean and sandalwood until the whole thing turns creamy, almost edible, like sandalwood paste served on warm wood. Jasmine enters as a quiet presence rather than a solo voice, threading through the resin without ever announcing itself. As the hours pass, the woods take on greater prominence: cedar, sandalwood, and vetiver settle into a dry, powdery close that reads like sun-bleached linen. The projection softens considerably as the day wears on, but the scent remains present, clean and warm, with cedar and orris lingering well into the following hours for those who let it stay on skin.
Cultural impact
45 Reflections Of The Desert draws its reference point from Amouage's Reflection 45, placing it within a category of contemplative, resin-heavy scents that favor depth and atmosphere. The composition leans heavily on frankincense, myrrh, opoponax, and benzoin, supported by a backbone of woods and softened by florals like jasmine and orris root. This makes it a fragrance that reads as substantial from the first spray, the kind of scent that fills a room without overwhelming it.
