The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Soulvent was founded in Hong Kong in 2024 with a clear mission: to create fragrances that document personal moments rather than abstract concepts. The Expedition Series, where Golden Mountain belongs, focuses on moments of discovery and movement. The brief for this piece was deceptively simple: capture the feeling of first light on a remote peak. For the perfumers behind the project, that meant starting with how the eye adjusts to a sudden shift in light rather than reaching for a pre-existing fragrance archetype. Grapefruit and bergamot were chosen as the initial visual language, because they carry a sharpness that mirrors the clarity of early morning air. Mandarin orange was added to soften the edges and create an opening that felt welcoming rather than confrontational, like the warmth that follows the first breath at altitude.
Soulvent's approach to note selection is always functional rather than decorative. In Golden Mountain, every ingredient exists to serve the narrative. Grapefruit and bergamot were chosen not because they are fashionable but because their sharpness translates to the feeling of cold morning air. Geranium was selected for its green, slightly bitter quality that mirrors the experience of high altitude. Vetiver anchors the composition as a direct reference to the earthy, mineral reality of mountain terrain.
The evolution
The narrative arc of Golden Mountain follows the physical experience of an ascent. The opening is the moment of leaving camp in near-darkness, where the citrus notes act as the initial burst of adrenaline and awareness. Grapefruit provides the immediate sting of cold air, bergamot offers the cool green sensation of pine needles and damp earth at that hour, and mandarin orange reflects the faint warmth waiting on the horizon. As the climb continues and the sun clears the ridge, the heart takes over. Geranium represents the changing light on stone and snow, with its green, almost medicinal clarity. Lily of the valley anchors the middle with a quiet floral sweetness that mirrors the silence found at certain altitudes, that absence of noise that is itself a kind of sound. The drydown is the arrival, the moment at the summit where exhaustion and clarity coexist. Musk becomes the personal warmth of a body at rest, ambergris adds the faint mineral quality of snowmelt and stone, and vetiver grounds the fragrance in the earthy reality of terrain rather than fantasy.
Cultural impact
Since joining the Expedition Series, Golden Mountain has become a touchstone for fans seeking a scent that captures early‑morning clarity. Its bright‑citrus opening paired with a calm, musky base resonates with those who value a story‑centric perfume, positioning it as a go‑to for sunrise‑inspired moments in the niche community.
