The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Raw arrived in 2013 from Skinn by Titan, the Indian group's fragrance line developed in collaboration with French perfumer Olivier Pescheux. The composition opens with bergamot layered against watery fruits that push past the brightness of standard citrus openers, lending a juicier, almost synthetic sweetness to the first few minutes on skin. As the top notes fade, the base settles in, and this is where the fragrance stakes its claim: Indonesian patchouli brings an earthy depth, and cashmeran wraps the whole thing in a skin-close warmth. The result is a composition that leans fresh at the start but finishes warm and grounded, with enough body to hold its shape through a long day. It reads as an uncomplicated, wearable scent that doesn't demand attention to be appreciated.
The floral-patchouli structure gives Raw its character once the citrus and watery fruits of the top settle. In the middle, violet leaf and carnation introduce a cool, slightly bitter greenness that cuts the sweetness of the opening, lending the composition a vegetal edge that feels deliberate rather than decorative. Pomarose threads through with a rosy, dewy quality, softening the transition from fresh top to deeper base without tipping into soapy or cologne-like territory.
The evolution
The opening moves quickly. Bergamot and mandarin hit bright and sharp, sharpened by aquatic notes that read like a glass of cold water poured over a hot day. The watery fruits keep the composition from collapsing into standard citrus territory, giving the first phase a juicier sweetness that some wearers love and others find slightly plasticky. As the citrus recedes, violet leaf takes over. The green, cool bitterness of crushed stems replaces the citrus brightness, and carnation adds a subtle clove-like warmth. This is the most distinctive phase. The florals do real work here, and the composition briefly stops smelling aquatic and starts smelling like something with more intention. The drydown shifts toward warmth. Indonesian patchouli takes the lead, softer and earthier than expected, with cashmeran adding a clean, woody warmth.
Cultural impact
Raw sits within the broad aquatic-citrus family, the same territory occupied by fragrances like Acqua di Giò, and the comparison comes up often in discussion of the scent. What separates it in wearing is the violet-carnation heart and softer patchouli base, which give it a warmer, more grounded character than many of its aquatic peers. The composition moves from a bright, watery opening through a green, floral middle and finishes on a quiet, skin-close warmth. Reviewers note the way the heart softens what could otherwise read as a straightforward freshie, and the patchouli base gives the drydown more weight than the category usually offers.
