The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Distant Shöres arrived in 2026 as part of the Køllektion, Skandinavisk's curated assembly of Nordic-inspired scents. The composition opens with an airy lift, a breath of something cold and open that arrives before any single note announces itself. Sea daffodil carries the first floral edge, white and green and faintly vegetable, like the stem of a plant pulled from damp ground. Arctic thyme threads through early, bringing a cool herbal sharpness that prickles at the edges of the air accord. There's a quietness to how these materials meet. Nothing shouts. The opening settles into something breathable, atmospheric, and distinctly Nordic in restraint, as though the fragrance were designed for a coastline where the wind does most of the talking and the scent just trails behind.
What's unusual here is the note structure. Air accord does the atmospheric lift, that cold open space above the composition where everything feels thin and breathable. Rock samphire brings a briny, mineral sharpness, the kind of salt that clings to plants growing where spray meets soil. Salty skin, literal as it sounds, grounds the composition in something human rather than abstract, a warmth that keeps the marine notes from floating away.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are the most expansive. Air accord and sea daffodil push outward, creating that cold, open sensation of standing where land thins out. Arctic thyme arrives quickly, herbal and almost peppery, the way coastal vegetation tastes when the wind pushes it into your face. Somewhere in the first hour, moss and heather pull the composition inward. The green sharpens, darkens slightly, and the aquatic brightness recedes. Rock samphire holds its mineral line, a salt that doesn't wash out but settles deeper into the fabric of the scent. Carnation glows underneath, warm and clove-edged, keeping the greens from feeling cold or austere. As the hours pass, driftwood and birch bark take over, dry and woody with a faint mineral echo underneath. The salty skin note never fully disappears. It sits underneath the wood like a memory of where you've been.
Cultural impact
Distant Shöres stays close to its source material. Where many fragrances in adjacent categories reach for tropical warmth or idealized resort imagery, this one keeps its feet on cold ground. The Nordic restraint reads as deliberate rather than limited, a confidence in what the composition doesn't do as much as what it does. There's no performance here, no projection designed to fill a room. The scent rewards proximity, which is itself a kind of statement about how fragrance can be worn. It's transporting in the sense that it pulls you somewhere specific, somewhere with salt air and low vegetation and a long view to grey water.
