The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
L'Éclat arrived in 2020 as what Rituals calls the nomad of its collection. The idea: a fragrance that travels rather than anchors. Fabrice Pellegrin built it around a clean neroli foundation, enriched with sandalwood to add warmth and body. Mimosa brings a yellow floral sweetness that gives the composition its distinctive character. The brief was simple, create something that leaves a uniquely scented footprint, elusive and captivating, but grounded enough to wear every day.
What makes L'Éclat work is the tension between its materials. Neroli pulls bright and citrusy. Sandalwood pulls warm and creamy. Mimosa threads between them as a soft, powdery sweetness that prevents either from dominating. The three notes appear across the pyramid rather than stacking in traditional layers, which creates continuity rather than dramatic evolution. It is not trying to be complex. It is trying to be coherent, and it succeeds.
The evolution
The opening is all neroli. Bright, clean, almost waxy citrus that arrives immediately. Sandalwood follows within minutes. The citrus edges soften. Warmth arrives. By the heart phase, mimosa joins. Its sweet, powdery yellow floral note brings a different kind of warmth to the composition. It sits alongside the sandalwood, creating an intimate balance. The drydown is where the real staying power lives. Sandalwood and mimosa merge into a warm, powdery presence that lingers for hours, intimate and close. The sandalwood's creamy wood and the mimosa's soft powder work together, creating a lasting impression. This is a fragrance that stays close to the skin, never projecting far. It is not meant to fill a room. It is meant to be discovered.
Cultural impact
Rituals built its identity around mindful domesticity, turning daily routines into intentional pauses. L'Éclat fits that philosophy precisely. It does not demand attention or announce itself before the wearer enters a room. It offers presence without volume, warmth without weight. This is the quiet confidence of someone who does not need their scent to speak first.
