Why it exists.
The beginning
Wicked Ghost arrived in 2019 as part of Poesie's Ghost Stories collection, a seasonal release designed to lean fully into atmosphere. The brand's own copy describes innocent marshmallow encompassed in glowing black amber and resinous incense smoke, and that tension, between something pillowy-soft and something older, darker, is the whole architecture of the fragrance. The marshmallow note reads clean and pale, almost powdered, the way the word "innocent" suggests in the official description, while the black amber lends a dense, faintly resinous undertow. Incense smoke threads through both, curling around the sweetness without smothering it.
What's interesting here is how little the composition asks of itself. Three named materials carry nearly the entire weight: incense, marshmallow, and black amber. The marshmallow note does the softening work alone, and black amber does the depth. That restraint is what makes it feel deliberate rather than sweet-then-smoky. The marshmallow arrives with a powdery, almost vanillic gentleness that softens the sharper edges of the smoke without diluting them.
The evolution
Incense leads from the first spray, frankincense sharp behind it, a thin trail of smoke that reads almost like church air, formal, quiet, slightly cold. Then something warmer arrives from underneath, not a separate phase but a slow turn, as if someone opened a window to a kitchen where marshmallows were being toasted rather than eaten raw. The smoke doesn't vanish. It bends. Over time the incense softens into a resinous hum and the marshmallow has gone from sweet to golden, carrying that toasted edge. Black amber arrives last, sitting low on the skin, close, almost medicinal in its warmth, the part of the fragrance that stays when everything else has gone home.
