The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Dank Ghost arrived in 2022 as part of Poesie's seasonal Ghost collection, a lineup that runs from Sleepy Ghost to Wicked Ghost. Joelle Nealy composed it herself, working within her role as brand owner and perfume maker. The fragrance sits comfortably in the company's small-batch approach, with each accord shaped by direct, hands-on attention rather than outsourced formulation. The composition reads as a study in unlikely bedfellows: cannabis, marshmallow, patchouli, and smoke arranged in a way that feels both playful and considered. Cannabis opens the door with its green, herbal presence, marshmallow brings a soft sweetness, and patchouli handles the atmosphere, grounding the whole thing in something earthy and slightly damp.
Cannabis paired with marshmallow is an unusual negotiation. The cannabis note carries a green, herbal sharpness that most gourmand compositions avoid, but anchoring it with smoke and patchouli shifts the whole conversation from sweet to smoldering. The interplay between these materials is where the fragrance stakes its claim. The marshmallow does not behave the way marshmallow usually behaves, refusing to simply melt into the background. Instead it sits alongside the cannabis, sometimes competing for attention, sometimes blending until you cannot tell where one ends and the other begins.
The evolution
The first minutes are loud. Cannabis lands first, bright and green, almost chlorophyll-bright, with the marshmallow already softening the edges before you register it. Within minutes the smoke moves in, threading between the cannabis and the patchouli like someone feeding sticks to a fire that was already lit. The heart is where this fragrance commits. Patchouli takes over the lower register, rich and slightly loamy, while the smoke and hemp create a haze that sits on skin rather than hovering above it. The marshmallow never disappears, it just becomes harder to identify, folded into the smoke like a sweetness that has been roasted rather than raw. As the hours pass the cannabis quiets considerably, leaving the patchouli to do most of the talking while smoke holds everything together.
Cultural impact
Dank Ghost reflects an approach to cannabis as a creative material rather than a passing trend. Within the Ghost collection, it offers a smokier, more unconventional alternative to softer entries like Sleepy Ghost and Library Ghost, appealing to wearers who want something with a bit more edge. The seasonal, limited-release format means it carries a particular collectibility, a fragrance that exists in a specific window and then shifts out of rotation. This format encourages unhurried exploration, the kind of discovery that happens when a scent is available for a season rather than year-round.
