The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Black Cherry arrived as part of OrdioLab's debut quartet. The brief was simple on paper: a dark cherry, warm and a little dangerous. The challenge lay in balancing fruit and depth, sweetness and something that could hold its own on skin. The resulting fragrance opens with that dark, almost wine-dark cherry, which doesn't read as candied or synthetic. Instead it feels ripe, almost decadent. Saffron adds a warm, slightly metallic edge that keeps the sweetness from feeling soft. Within the first thirty minutes the frankincense begins to build, a quiet resinous current that grounds the opening and prevents it from floating away. The heart deepens with rose and red wine arriving together, their combined warmth richer than the initial burst.
What makes Black Cherry stand apart is the frankincense sitting alongside the cherry from the first spray. It doesn't dominate, but it changes the conversation, the fruit reads darker, almost fermented, as if the cherry had already started its turn toward wine. The red wine note in the heart reinforces this. Rose and almond soften the edges, but they don't dilute the overall impression. Musk and roasted nuts in the base are the real payoff, a warmth that stays close to the skin for hours after the fruit fades.
The evolution
The opening is cherry and saffron together, dark fruit with a warm, slightly spiced edge. For the first thirty minutes the frankincense builds quietly, grounding the sweetness before the rose and red wine arrive to deepen the heart. By the second hour the almond note surfaces, giving the floral heart a slightly edible quality. The drydown belongs to roasted nuts and musk, warm, skin-close, intimate. On most skin types the longevity sits above average, with the projection remaining noticeable throughout the wear rather than fading early. The sillage stays present without being overwhelming, sitting close to the skin while still announcing itself with quiet confidence.
Cultural impact
Black Cherry launched as part of OrdioLab's debut quartet, alongside Mint Rose, Wild Jasmine, and Black Oud. The collection caught the attention of niche-perfume enthusiasts drawn to its balance of familiar accords with a contemporary sensibility. Reviewers noted the structural clarity of the compositions, where each note has a defined role and the transitions feel intentional rather than accidental. The brand's approach appeals to collectors who treat fragrance as exploration, with each scent offering enough complexity to reward repeated wearing.
