A house, in its own words
The story of Negligé Perfume Lab begins in the spring of 2020, when Mariia Chaikovskaya decided to translate her academic background in chemical technology into a personal perfume laboratory. Living and working in Odessa, she set up a modest lab space in her apartment, sourcing raw materials from both local Ukrainian suppliers and international specialty distributors. The first public release, Nude, arrived later that year and was followed by a rapid succession of releases: Hot Sweet Vanilla, Patchouli Absolute, Antique Chypre, Oregano Hooligano, Motherland, Sweet Dreams, Rose Absolute, and August Evening, all launched in 2020. In 2021 the house introduced Spring Forest, marking its first foray into a more green, aromatic profile. Throughout this period, Chaikovskaya remained hands‑on, overseeing every stage from raw material selection to final bottling. The brand’s early exposure came through niche fragrance forums and social media, where collectors noted the laboratory aesthetic and the bold, unconventional accords. By the end of 2021, Negligé had established a modest but dedicated following among scent enthusiasts who appreciate a scientific approach to perfumery. The house continues to operate from Odessa, with each new launch announced directly to its community via Instagram and fragrance‑focused platforms, reinforcing its identity as a small‑scale, creator‑driven laboratory. Negligé Perfume Lab frames perfumery as an experiment rather than a finished product. The founder’s scientific training informs a philosophy that prioritises ingredient integrity, precise formulation, and iterative testing. Chaikovskaya has spoken about her desire to be "in the weeds and in the labs" at every stage, a stance that translates into a commitment to transparency about the materials used and the processes applied. The brand avoids generic claims of luxury, instead letting each scent’s character define its own narrative. Sustainability is approached pragmatically: ingredients are sourced with an eye toward purity and availability, and waste is minimized by producing in small batches that match demand. The house also values education, sharing snippets of formulation logic on its social channels to demystify the chemistry behind fragrance. This open‑lab mindset encourages a dialogue with collectors, positioning the brand as a collaborative partner in the discovery of new olfactory territories.
