Heritage
A house, in its own words
Michael Bootz launched Otaki parfums in early 2020 after years of experimenting with incense‑based accords in his home studio. The first release, Outfit (2021), introduced a crisp, aromatic structure that hinted at the brand’s future direction. In 2022 the line added Linden Dreams, a scent that paired Ukrainian linden blossom with soft woods, marking the first time the house highlighted a native floral note. 2023 brought two notable launches: Helping Hemp, which incorporated industrial hemp seed oil for a green, earthy texture, and Fairy Tales, a whimsical composition that referenced Slavic folklore. The following year Otaki introduced Sacred Forest Natural, a forest‑inspired fragrance that used sustainably harvested pine resin. 2024 saw the debut of Sacred Forest Natural, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to natural ingredients sourced within Ukraine. By 2025 the portfolio expanded with By your side and Linden Dreams Intense, both of which deepened the brand’s signature incense motif while offering richer, longer‑lasting versions of earlier concepts. Throughout this period the brand kept production in Kyiv, hand‑filling each bottle and maintaining a small‑batch philosophy that allowed rapid iteration and close interaction with a growing community of fragrance enthusiasts. The brand’s resilience during the 2022‑2023 conflict in Ukraine earned it recognition in niche‑press circles for continuing to create and ship products despite logistical challenges. Otaki’s evolution reflects a steady accumulation of distinct scents, each anchored in a clear olfactory narrative and a hands‑on production ethic. Otaki’s creative vision rests on three pillars: narrative clarity, material honesty, and tactile intimacy. Bootz treats each perfume as a short story, choosing a single focal note—often incense or a local botanical—and building a supporting cast that reinforces that narrative without excess. The brand avoids generic claims of innovation; instead it lets the choice of ingredients speak for itself. Sustainability informs ingredient selection: the house sources linden blossoms from Ukrainian farms, hemp seed oil from regional producers, and incense resins that meet fair‑trade standards. Otaki also embraces a modest aesthetic, believing that a clean bottle and simple label let the wearer focus on the scent’s evolution on skin. Community feedback shapes future releases, with Bootz listening to collectors and adjusting formulas in subsequent batches. The brand’s values include supporting Ukrainian artisans, preserving local scent heritage, and maintaining a transparent supply chain that can be traced from field to fragrance.
