The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Navitus Parfums approached Bertrand Duchaufour with a simple brief: capture the instant a slice of honeydew melon meets a squeeze of bright citrus on a slow summer afternoon. Duchaufour, working with Pierre Flores in 2024, translated this vision into Melon Kiss, an extrait de parfum that preserves the juicy immediacy of that moment through a translucent, multi-layered melon note that evolves rather than disappears.
The note progression from crisp melon to creamy coconut to sweet vanilla and honey reflects a philosophy of contrast within cohesion. The bergamot in the opening provides necessary brightness to prevent the melon from feeling flat, while the honey and bourbon vanilla in the base ground the composition in warmth. This structure makes Melon Kiss wearable across different times of day, from a bright morning application to an evening that follows.
The evolution
Melon Kiss begins with the crisp snap of bergamot meeting cool, watery melon flesh. This opening feels like morning sunlight on fruit. As the fragrance develops, coconut milk smooths the experience, adding body and a tropical richness that extends the summery feeling. By the time bourbon vanilla and honey arrive, the scent has mellowed into something cozy and edible, like a dessert you'd eat by the pool. Each phase flows naturally from the last, with melon serving as the connective tissue.
Cultural impact
Melon Kiss arrived at a time when consumers were seeking lighter, fruit‑forward fragrances that could bridge casual daywear and special occasions. Its focus on honeydew melon, a fruit rarely highlighted in perfumery, sparked conversations about expanding the palette of everyday scents. Social media users shared personal stories of how the fragrance reminded them of summer picnics and relaxed gatherings, creating a communal sense of nostalgia. By embracing a simple yet distinctive note, the perfume encouraged other brands to explore unconventional fruit accords, subtly shifting market trends toward more playful, approachable compositions.
