Why it exists.
The beginning
Explorer landed in 2019 from Montblanc, a house whose ambitions stretch far beyond the familiar. The brief was clear: a woody aromatic for someone who moves through the world with curiosity. Jordi Fernández composed it with master perfumers Antoine Maisondieu and Olivier Pescheux, sketching a fragrance that carries an unmistakable sense of place. Italian bergamot at the gate, Haitian vetiver in the middle, Indonesian patchouli anchoring the far end. Three countries, three chapters, one continuous thread of motion and intention. The sourcing tells the story as much as the notes themselves, with each ingredient pulled from a region long associated with its particular character, lending the composition an authenticity that feels rooted rather than assembled.
What makes the composition work is the interplay between the natural and the constructed. Haitian vetiver forms the earthy backbone, while Akigalawood adds a woody, slightly spicy facet that holds its own against the rawer materials around it. Ambroxan provides that clean, mineral warmth that lingers without demanding attention. Cocoa in the base is the unexpected whisper, a dry bitterness that keeps the sweetness honest.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes belong to the bergamot, bright and sharp in its clarity. Pink pepper flickers at the edge, warming slowly while sage adds a green herbal cool that cuts the citrus. By the 30-minute mark, the leather arrives, and this is where things shift into a different register. The vetiver underneath is the roots of the whole thing, Haitian, dry, smoky-sweet, holding the structure while the surface softens. The leather never gets heavy or stiff. It moves with the wearer, adapting to body heat and movement. Two hours in, the Ambroxan begins to catch up, that mineral warmth that grounds everything in dark earth. The drydown is where the cocoa finally speaks, a whisper of bitter warmth that draws the scent close to the skin, present on clothes the next morning when you catch the sleeve on your way out the door.

Explorer finds its audience among those who want something versatile but distinctive. It occupies comfortable space in the woody aromatic category, sitting alongside fragrances at two or three times its price point that share a similar DNA. It's a scent that travels well: from morning meetings to evening drinks, from city to mountain, and it reads as put-together without being sharp-edged.
