The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
When perfumer Violaine Collas turned to tuberose for Monotheme Venezia in 2017, the flower presented its own challenges. Tuberose is already a full composition on its own, rich and creamy in character, with an intensity that can overwhelm if mishandled. The work was figuring out how to let it speak without drowning it out.
The white flowers in the heart of this fragrance share space with the tuberose, and together they create a floral presence that doesn't retreat into the background. Coconut plays a role in the composition, appearing in the opening and continuing to weave through the heart of the fragrance. As the florals begin to recede, cedarwood, amber, and vanilla arrive, providing a base that adds body and sweetness to the composition.
The evolution
The opening of this fragrance begins with coconut cream and petitgrain arriving together. The coconut is lush and tropical, with a sweetness that feels warm and edible. The petitgrain adds a citrusy-green brightness alongside it, giving the opening a humid quality that evokes tropical air on skin. Within the heart, tuberose and white flowers take over, and the florals build on each other, creating a presence that fills space. Coconut continues to warm the composition from within. The base develops as the florals begin to recede. Cedarwood grounds the sweetness, with amber and vanilla adding a warm finish. The drydown is sweet without being sugary. The projection is present to those nearby. On fabric, the base can linger for an extended period.
Cultural impact
Tuberose occupies a specific corner of the fragrance world: bold, tropical, unapologetic. It is the kind of white floral that commands attention rather than whispers. Community reviews describe the tuberose note as rich and creamy, with an animalic quality that sets it apart from lighter interpretations. The coconut opening in this fragrance has become a notable characteristic of Monotheme's style, and it divides wearers. Reviewers cite it as a reliable alternative to more expensive bold florals. The EDT concentration keeps the projection moderate, present to those nearby but not overwhelming a room.
