The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Alberto Morillas built Poudre d'Or around two specific materials, Paradisone® and soft tiare flower, to create something distinctive. The 2018 release uses these trademarked ingredients as functional elements that give the composition its character. The official description calls it an ode to the calming beauty of a sunset, not a literal interpretation, but a mood: warmth without aggression, presence without announcement, the kind of golden light that makes people want to stay where they are a little longer. The tiare brings its characteristic tropical sweetness, lush and slightly creamy, while Paradisone® adds a powdery depth that elevates the florals beyond simple brightness.
What makes Poudre d'Or work is the way Paradisone® performs, a synthetic that mimics the sweet, waxy depth of tiare without simply copying it. The result is a powdery floral that avoids the generic. Orris and Exaltone® drive the heart, adding an iris-musky quality that gives the composition complexity and nuance. Bourbon vanilla and Australian sandalwood form the base, warm, slightly sweet, and notably close to the skin rather than projecting outward. The composition is built for staying power, but the sillage stays intimate.
The evolution
The opening arrives bright and clean, tropical florals hitting before any creamy warmth settles in. The tiare and Paradisone® give it a slight aldehydic sparkle, a lift that feels like the first moment light breaks at the horizon. The first thirty minutes are effervescent, almost sparkling in their clarity. The heart arrives quietly. The jasmine and orris begin to soften the florals, adding a powdery elegance that deepens as the composition settles. This is where the fragrance becomes itself, where the warm, sensual character the brand describes develops. The powdery quality does not fade as the florals settle, it deepens. The base arrives and anchors the composition. Bourbon vanilla and sandalwood form a warm, close drydown that stays close to the skin for hours. The sandalwood adds a creamy, woody depth while the vanilla brings gentle sweetness that lingers.
Cultural impact
Poudre d'Or represents a distinctive entry in the warm, powdery floral category, built around specific trademarked materials, Paradisone® and Exaltone®, that give it a particular character within its genre. The fragrance draws consistent comparison to Ylang in Gold by M. Micallef and Chopard's Cašmir, fragrances known for warmth and elegance in the powdery floral space. Community response centers on its warm, intimate quality and longevity, with particular appreciation for how the drydown develops over time.
