The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Edge Crystal arrived in 2022 as part of Mirada's Edge collection, a line that builds its compositions around rose as the centerpiece. The idea wasn't to build another rose soliflore. It was to frame rose with the fruit that flatters it and the woods that ground it. Lychee, cardamom, peony, sandalwood, cedar, each note chosen to pull rose in a specific direction. The result is a composition that knows exactly what it's doing and doesn't apologize for the sweetness. Strip the poetry away and the intent is simpler. A confident, wearable rose with enough fruit and wood to feel current and self-assured. The litchi opens with a cool, almost sparkling juiciness that brightens the top. Cardamom weaves through the heart with a dry warmth that keeps things from tipping into syrup.
What makes this composition worth a second look is the tension between the tropical sweetness of litchi and the dryness of cedar and sandalwood in the base. The cardamom in the heart is the bridge. It warms the fruit without sweetening the wood, holding the two sides together rather than letting them fight. Peony adds a soft, almost powdery lift that keeps the rose from going dense or heavy. Turkish rose carries a honeyed, slightly jammy facet that gives the composition its center of gravity. The litchi amplifies that jammy side, pulling the rose into something lush and almost edible.
The evolution
First fifteen minutes, the litchi runs the show. It's cold, juicy, almost like biting into the fruit in summer air, with a faint green tinge from the rose waiting underneath. The sweetness is generous but not sticky, and there's a crystalline quality to it that feels lifted rather than syrupy. Around the 30-minute mark, the rose surfaces. Turkish rose has a syrupy warmth, here softened by peony into something more cloudlike than dense. The cardamom shows up right behind it, a dry warmth that keeps the sweetness honest and adds a faint peppered edge to the heart. By the two-hour mark, the sandalwood and cedar have settled in. The composition reads warmer, creamier, less about the fruit now and more about skin. The litchi is gone, but its ghost lingers as a faint sweetness under the rose.
Cultural impact
Edge Crystal sits within Mirada's growing feminine catalogue, where the rose takes center stage and the supporting notes earn their place through careful balance. The Edge collection reads as the brand's softer, more floral register, where rose, fruit, and wood meet without leaning into heavier territory. Wearers tend to be drawn to the litchi-rose combination, a pairing that feels distinctly modern and inviting without veering into the dense, traditional rose soliflore territory.
