Why it exists.
The beginning
Talco & Panna-2 comes from Mine Perfume Lab, a brand whose name already tells you something about how they think about scent. The house puts its identity into the work itself, creating compositions where the title does most of the talking. This one translates talco (talcum) and panna (cream) into a composition built entirely around softness, an enveloping and reassuring feel the brand describes on its own terms as something close to a hug. Released as part of an early lineup that established the house's direction, it stands as a tactile, powdery statement, the kind of fragrance that leans into nostalgic comfort rather than aggressive projection.
What separates this from the parade of generic baby-powder fragrances is restraint. Most powdery scents drown themselves in white musk and synthetic sweetness. Mine Perfume Lab built Talco & Panna-2 on a short pyramid, just white flowers up top, powdery notes at the core, and iris-tonka-vanilla underneath. That brevity forces the base to do structural work. Iris contributes that cool, suede-like dryness that keeps vanilla from cloying, while tonka adds a faint almond warmth without pushing the composition toward gourmand territory. The result reads powdery in name but floral-amber in execution, less about nostalgia and more about calm.
The evolution
The opening is almost evasive. White flowers appear briefly, then recede behind a wave of powder that feels more like texture than scent. That powdery phase carries through most of the wear, a long central stretch where the composition reads as something closer to a sensation than a list of notes. Somewhere in the middle hours, iris surfaces with that cool, mineral quality it brings to compositions of this kind, dusting over the sweetness without ever pushing it aside. Tonka and vanilla take over the back half. Not the loud, bakery-warm vanilla of a gourmand, but something drier, more suede-like, with a quiet warmth that registers as comfort rather than sweetness. The drydown settles into a skin-close iris and vanilla blend, the powder softening further, the vanilla settling into something almost creamy without ever turning heavy.
