The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Le Jasmin came together under Lyn Harris, the perfumer who founded Miller Harris. Launched in 2013 as part of a series of compositions Harris had been developing over many years, Le Jasmin dates its earliest conception back to 2010. The fragrance centers on the jasmine flower itself, with Moroccan jasmine absolute carrying the composition. That single ingredient anchors everything, and the surrounding notes exist to frame it rather than compete with it. Harris approached the material with respect for what jasmine can do on its own, building outward from the absolute rather than building toward it. The result is a composition where the floral heart remains legible from first spray to final drydown, never buried beneath the supporting cast or muddled by heavy base materials.
What defines Le Jasmin is its restraint. Rather than wrapping the flower in layers of indolic richness, the composition uses a chypre floral structure that lets brightness and greenness hold equal weight. Calabrian bergamot and lemon lift the opening into something almost sparkling. Rosemary and lavender add an herbal clarity that keeps the jasmine from tipping into sweetness. The oakmoss and cedarwood base gives the whole thing a grounded, slightly mossy finish.
The evolution
The first few minutes belong entirely to the citrus. Calabrian bergamot, lemon, and mandarin arrive with a clean, almost sharp brightness, accompanied by the cool green of rosemary and lavender. This opening reads more like a cologne than a jasmine fragrance, which is part of the surprise. As time passes, the Moroccan jasmine absolute begins to emerge from underneath, not as a sudden reveal but as a gradual warming. The jasmine here isn't the heady, almost overwhelming indolic type. It's greener, more transparent, with a vegetal quality that connects it back to the herbal opening. The transition feels seamless, like watching the garden shift from morning brightness to midday warmth. Eventually, the oakmoss and cedarwood settle in, giving the composition a dry, slightly earthy foundation.
Cultural impact
Le Jasmin sits within Miller Harris's archive collection, a series of compositions developed over years before their 2013 debut. The fragrance centers on Moroccan jasmine absolute, surrounded by bergamot, lemon, mandarin, rosemary, lavender, oakmoss, and cedarwood. It offers a greener, more aromatic take on jasmine, with herbal and citrus notes keeping the sweetness in check throughout the wear. The oakmoss and cedarwood base adds an earthy dimension that grounds the floral heart, giving the composition a sense of place that feels rooted in natural surroundings.
