The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Icarus 967 is the second chapter in Maison Noir's Icarus narrative, following Icarus 347. Where 347 was a Woody composition built on green apple, melon, red apple, patchouli, and raspberry, 967 inherits that fruit-driven DNA and carries it forward. Released in 2026, it shares the same green apple and raspberry spine that defined its predecessor while introducing pink pepper, Akigalawood, and a musk base into the structure. The result is a fragrance that shares its lineage with 347 but reads as a distinct composition in its own right, the same family of ideas rendered through a different set of materials and proportions. It feels like a continuation of the story rather than a reinvention, a second page in the same book rather than a new volume.
What makes 967 distinctive is how it handles fruit. The green and red apples arrive sharp and vegetal, cut by pink pepper's clean sting, then anchored by patchouli's earthy root system. The Akigalawood in the base is doing serious structural work beneath the fruit, giving the composition a polished, sculpted quality that keeps everything in proportion. There is sweetness here, but it is the sweetness of ripe fruit held just short of overripe, never the syrupy weight of a confection.
The evolution
Icarus 967 opens with a bright, almost aggressive rush of green apple and pink pepper crashing together like something bitten into cold. The fruit is immediate, unapologetic, a little startling in its clarity. Then the raspberry arrives, and the composition shifts into a softer register. The sweetness of the raspberry rounds out the sharper edges of the opening, giving the green apple somewhere to settle. From there, the composition begins its descent. The apples recede into a general fruit-skin warmth, and the base materials take over. Akigalawood and vetiver build a dry, slightly woody architecture, the dry mineral coolness of vetiver threading through the smoother warmth of Akigalawood. Tonka bean softens the edges, adding a quiet sweetness that bridges the gap between the fruity opening and the woody base.
Cultural impact
Icarus 967 extends a narrative arc that began with Icarus 347, and the two share a clear genetic relationship in their green apple and raspberry foundations. The shift from 347's woody patchouli register to 967's cooler, more architectural fruit makes it read as an evening companion to its predecessor's daytime mood. At least one wearer has already drawn the comparison, describing 967 as Icarus 347's big brother, a reference that captures the sense of a familiar composition grown taller and more sculpted.
