The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
A limited-edition tribute to 130 years of the Louis Vuitton monogram, the iconic pattern that has defined the house's leather goods. Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud composed eLVes as both celebration and renewal: a contemporary floral for the women associated with the house, anchored in French perfumery tradition through centifolia rose from Grasse and lily of the valley. The scent opens with a bright, fruity softness before revealing its floral heart, clean lily of the valley dancing alongside the rich, honeyed warmth of centifolia rose. The refillable presentation reinforces the sustainability angle that sits alongside the heritage play.
The CO2-extracted centifolia rose gives the fragrance a particular clarity. CO2 extraction captures the full breadth of the bloom, the petals, the green stems, the slightly heady quality, without the heaviness that sometimes comes with traditional absolutes. Lily of the valley adds transparency rather than sweetness; it's a note that clarifies rather than complicates. The coconut milk in the heart doesn't read as tropical, it reads as creaminess, rounding the edges of the fruit and florals alike. And the ambroxan in the base: not the warm wood or skin tone that might be expected, but a mineral warmth that reads as intimate rather than announced.
The evolution
The opening is immediate, peach and blackcurrant arrive together, bright and fruity. The lily of the valley appears, cutting through the sweetness with a clean, almost transparent note. The rose follows, but it takes its time, growing into the composition rather than announcing itself. The coconut milk softens the transition into the base, where ambroxan's mineral warmth mingles with patchouli's subtle earth for a quiet, grounding effect that extends the wear. Close to the skin by the end, but never absent.
Cultural impact
eLVes occupies an interesting position within the LV fragrance line, not the statement piece, but the invitation. Accessible in its fruity-floral character while maintaining the refinement the house demands. The combination of lily of the valley clarity with ambroxan warmth offers something distinctive within the contemporary floral category, unmistakably modern and transparent in its approach. The 130th anniversary framing gives it gravitas without heaviness.
