The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Art of Arabia II arrived in 2023 as the second chapter in Lattafa's homage to the region's olfactory heritage. The name is the brief: a collection that translates Arabian perfumery, its ouds and ambers, its spiced warmth and animalic depth, into compositions that lean into tradition rather than dilute it. Cardamom and pink pepper open sharp and confident, their interplay crackling with energy before heliotrope steps in to add that powdery floral lift. The transition from top to heart feels natural, the spice never disappearing but softening as the fragrance settles. The drydown anchors everything in a rich oud character that lingers close to the skin. This is Arabian perfumery, presented on its own terms.
What makes Art of Arabia II interesting is its structure: a lavender-forward heart at its center, with almond adding a nutty sweetness and jasmine softening the aromatic edge. The combination gives it an edible warmth that keeps it approachable, not the sharp, polarizing kind of lavender, but a rounded version that blends into the spice and cream of the base. The oud is present without being aggressive, the vanilla is warm without being linear, and guaiac wood adds a subtle woody depth that grounds the whole composition.
The evolution
The opening announces itself immediately. Pink pepper sparks against bergamot's brightness, heliotrope softens everything in powdery floral, cardamom adds warm spice. This is the flirtatious first act, it grabs attention. As the initial burst begins to mellow, the heart takes over. Lavender arrives as the steady presence, with almond giving it an edible, nutty warmth and jasmine threading through in delicate floral steps. The handoff from opening to heart is seamless, the spice doesn't disappear, it deepens and folds into the cream. The drydown is where it lives longest. Oud, sandalwood, and guaiac wood create a warm woody base, vanilla adds sweetness that rounds the edges, and the whole thing settles close to the skin but lingers. It projects modestly, maintaining an intimate presence rather than announcing itself across the room.
Cultural impact
Art of Arabia II enters a space where Middle Eastern perfumery has been gaining attention from enthusiasts exploring beyond conventional Western scent profiles. Oud, heavy ambers, and animalic warmth, once considered outside mainstream tastes, are now part of conversations among those looking for something with more character. Lattafa's contribution to this space has been consistent: offering fragrances built on regional traditions without the starkness that can make such scents feel alien to newcomers.
