The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Cherry blossom has long inspired perfumers for its delicate, ephemeral quality. L'Occitane wanted to bottle that fleeting beauty with Fleurs de Cerisier, Cherry Blossom, launched as a concentrated Eau de Toilette Intense variant of the original. The perfumer paired cherry blossom with blackcurrant and freesia in the top, creating a fresher, fruitier opening than a straightforward floral. The blackcurrant adds a tart, berry-like brightness while the freesia contributes a clean, slightly spicy floral lift that softens the cherry blossom's arrival. Lily of the valley anchors the heart, adding a cool, green undertone that keeps the sweetness honest and prevents the composition from tipping into anything overly saccharine.
The Intense concentration is worth noting, it's a step up from the standard EDT, which means more cherry blossom presence in the heart and a slightly richer drydown. Cherry blossom as a note is inherently delicate, prone to fading fast in lighter formulations. The perfumer addressed this by building around a strong lily of the valley heart, which adds staying power without adding weight. The blackcurrant in the top does double duty: it lifts the sweetness of the cherry and gives the opening a tart-fruity quality that keeps things from feeling one-dimensional. The result is a fragrance that reads as light and feminine but holds its shape longer than most florals in this concentration.
The evolution
The opening is immediate, blackcurrant and freesia arrive first, giving the cherry blossom a tart-fruity lift before the floral note fully announces itself. As the fragrance develops, the cherry blossom takes over as the heart, with lily of the valley adding a cool, green undertone that keeps the sweetness honest. The drydown is where this one earns its keep. Warm amber and rosewood settle close to the skin, creating a skin-close effect that extends the wear without projecting outward. The composition evolves gracefully, with each layer revealing itself in sequence rather than competing for attention. It's the kind of fragrance that doesn't fill a room but leaves a trace, lingering subtly in its wake.
Cultural impact
Cherry blossom brings a delicate, slightly sweet floral quality to perfumery, with a clean, airy character that suggests renewal and understated elegance. The fragrance captures this essence through careful blending, translating the subtle beauty of blossoms into a wearable form that feels both refined and approachable. Celebrated for its gentle sweetness and airy disposition, cherry blossom occupies a distinctive place among floral notes, offering a lightness that balances well with fruitier or muskier companions.
