The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nathalie Lorson wanted to compose a disarming skin scent for the Freedom Collection: a new expression of the musky signature that feels luminous and radiant. Her vision was a sheer musk that makes the wearer shine with a sense of openness, embodying the true spirit of freedom. The '27' in the name follows Kayali's tradition of numbering each formula exactly as many times as it was modified before final approval, in this case, 27 revisions to get the balance right.
The combination of jasmine and Turkish rose is a deliberate choice for maturity and depth. Jasmine often skews fresh or indolic, but here it's been guided toward a creamier register through the ylang-ylang bridge, which softens the transition into the heart. Pink pepper adds a tiny spark of energy so the florals never feel static. The result is a fragrance that behaves like it knows what it is.
The evolution
The opening hits fast and bright, jasmine immediately at the front, ylang-ylang following within minutes, pink pepper keeping things from going flat. For about the first 15 minutes there's a subtle spark, a little sharpness that keeps the floral from reading too sweet too soon. Then the rose arrives. Not the fresh-cut rose of a spring fragrance, something deeper, more velvety. The vanilla wraps around it, and suddenly the whole thing turns creamy, almost edible. The jasmine doesn't disappear; it keeps threading through, but now it feels like warmth rather than brightness. This is where the skin scent magic happens, it becomes intimate, close, something you catch on your own wrists. The drydown is gentle. Sandalwood and praline settle quietly, the vetiver adding just enough dry counterweight to keep it from becoming saccharine. The vanilla persists longest, close to the skin, detectable but not announced. On fabric it fades faster, maybe 4 hours. On skin, closer to 6. The next morning there's a faint warmth left, sweet and clean, like the ghost of the rose.
Cultural impact
The Freedom Collection landed in 2025 with four musk-focused flankers, each designed to layer or stand alone. Musk Bouquet | 27 is the most traditionally floral of the set, jasmine-forward with a Turkish rose heart and creamy praline base. Its positioning as a sheer, skin-close fragrance appeals to wearers who want presence without projection. The sillage leans comfortable and work-ready rather than attention-grabbing. Enthusiasts debate whether its familiar sensibility fits the brand's usual boldness, though it has earned a loyal following as a reliable daily wear for musk lovers.
