A house, in its own words
Kayali, which means 'my imagination' in Arabic, was brought to life in 2018 by fragrance aficionado Mona Kattan. As the sister of Huda Kattan and co-founder of the Huda Beauty empire, Mona stepped out to create a brand that was entirely her own passion project. Growing up in an Iraqi-American family, perfume was not just an accessory but a ritual, a core part of her identity and culture. She wanted to bottle that deep, personal connection to scent. The brand launched with 'The Collection | 01,' a set of four distinct fragrances designed to be worn alone or layered together. This initial offering, featuring Elixir | 11, Vanilla | 28, Citrus | 08, and Musk | 12, was a bold statement. It immediately established Kayali's core concept: to educate and empower consumers to become their own perfumers. It was a successful move, translating the traditional Middle Eastern practice of layering oils and perfumes for a modern, international market.
At its heart, Kayali's philosophy is about making fragrance fun, personal, and accessible. The house works to demystify the often-intimidating world of perfumery, presenting scent as a tool for self-expression and mood enhancement. Mona Kattan's vision is clear: perfume should tell your story. By designing each fragrance to be both a standalone statement and a harmonious component in a larger scent wardrobe, Kayali provides the building blocks for endless creativity. The brand rejects the old idea of a single, lifelong 'signature scent' in favor of a fluid, ever-changing scent identity that matches your mood, outfit, or occasion.
