The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sexy Me N°4 arrived in 2012 as the fourth chapter in Jeanne Arthes' playful Sexy Me collection, a fruity-floral with enough depth in the base to avoid the candy-shop trap. From the first spritz, mandarin and peach crash together in a bright, fizzy opening, the kind of sweetness that announces itself without apology. The composition doesn't pretend to be demure. N°4 leans into sweetness, then earns complexity as it wears. Around the twenty-minute mark, jasmine and orchid settle in, softening the fruit into something creamy and slightly powdery without burying it. The bottle comes dressed in a black lace corset motif on the outer carton, a visual cue that this fragrance is built on a wink rather than a whisper.
The composition works because it refuses to stay in one register. Peach and mandarin open bright and sweet, but the heart drops in orchid and jasmine, white florals that add a creamy, almost soapy softness rather than indolic intensity. The base is where it gets interesting: raspberry, usually a top-note player, shows up here in the drydown, lending a jammy warmth that sits between the patchouli's earthy bitterness and the musky skin-scent. That raspberry-patchouli-musK trio is the real architecture, pulling the fruity opening back down to something wearable past the first hour. It's a structure that borrows from the gourmand playbook without committing to it.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes belong to mandarin and peach, bright and almost fizzy, like biting into fruit still cold from the fridge. The sweetness is forward, unapologetic, and there's a candied edge that some wearers love and others find too much. Around the twenty-minute mark the jasmine and orchid arrive, softening everything into a creamy, slightly powdery haze. The fruit doesn't disappear. It just gets dressed up, pressed into a more grown-up silhouette. By the two-hour mark the top notes are gone and the base takes over. This is where Sexy Me N°4 earns its name. The raspberry comes through warm and jammy, the patchouli grounds it with a dusty earthiness, and the musk wraps the whole thing in a skin-like veil. It settles into something close and intimate, the kind of scent that lives on a collar or a wrist rather than filling a room.
Cultural impact
Sexy Me N°4 is the kind of fragrance that gets noticed without trying to be difficult, a sweet, pretty composition with enough base-note weight to survive a real day. Wearers tend to be people who want something approachable that still has structure underneath, a scent that reads as feminine without being precious. It carries the playfulness the line is known for, the candied fruit opening, the creamy floral heart, and a warm, jammy close that hugs the skin. The composition makes sense as a gift, easy to like, hard to actively dislike, and generous enough to feel like a treat for the wearer as well.
