The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
For Chadam, Katell Plisson set out to create a scent that would capture the quiet warmth of afternoon indoors, drawing on the Jaclain belief that fragrance archives personal memories. The brief was simple in concept but precise in execution: open with amber and vanilla to conjure the immediate comfort of stepping into a sunlit kitchen, but keep the sweetness restrained and the presentation artisanal. Plisson chose sandalwood as the heart to give that warmth a calm, grounded structure, and she built the drydown from white musk and woody notes to ensure the composition stayed Intimate and close rather than announcing itself loudly across a room.
The note philosophy behind Chadam reflects a deliberate choice to pair warmth with restraint. Amber and vanilla could easily tip into sweet or gourmand territory; instead, the vanilla used here anchors rather than overwhelms, and the amber stays resinous and resinous rather than sugary. Sandalwood provides the calm middle ground that elevates the composition beyond pleasant into something considered and intentional. White musk in the drydown softens the woody notes, ensuring the final hours remain open and breathable, avoiding any heaviness that might disrupt the overall intimacy of the fragrance. This is a scent built for proximity, for moments where presence matters more than projection.
The evolution
The arc of Chadam follows a quiet logic. Amber and vanilla arrive tog ether at the opening, establishing an immediately warm presence that reads as natural and inviting rather than calculated. The amber glows softly while the vanilla adds smooth roundness, and for the first thirty minutes the wearer is wrapped in that warm amber-vanilla embrace. Sandalwood then enters quietly as the heart, bringing a creamy, dry texture that stabilizes the initial sweetness and deepens the warmth without asserting dominance. It is the structural bridge between opening and base, pulling the composition toward something more grounded and mature. As sandalwood fades, white musk and woody notes complete the arc, keeping the scent Intimate and restrained long after the initial warmth has settled. White musk ensures the final hours remain breathable and clean, while woody notes persist in subtle fashion, leaving the skin with a warm, skin-close presence that feels familiar and comforting.
Cultural impact
Since its 2025 debut, Chadam has been noted as Jaclain’s founding-creation homage, echoing the house’s quiet elegance while introducing a warmer, more approachable side. Wearers often cite its balanced amber-vanilla opening as a comforting alternative to sweeter gourmand offerings, positioning it as a go-to unisex scent for those seeking understated intimacy without overt flash.
