The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Khozam is the Arabic word for lavender, the aromatic heart of this 2017 release from Ibraheem AlQurashi. The perfumer wanted to bridge two worlds: the cool, herbaceous clarity of Western lavender traditions and the deeper, more animalic foundations that define Arabian perfumery. It arrived as a unisex option in a house better known for heavy ouds and incense blends, offering something that felt contemporary without abandoning the brand's roots.
What makes this structure unusual is the way it uses mint as a bridge between lavender and leather. Mint doesn't usually appear in leather fragrances, it's too green, too sharp. Here it acts as a transition, cooling the warmth of the leather while preparing the skin for the bergamot and lemon that arrive in the base. The animalic accord gives it staying power without making it dense. It's a composition that knows where it's going.
The evolution
The opening hits cool and mineral, lavender and floral notes that feel like morning air over a herb garden. Within the first twenty minutes, mint and leather arrive. The mint cuts through first, almost medicinal in its clarity, then the leather settles in beneath it, warm and slightly smoky. These two don't fight. They take turns. By the third hour, bergamot and lemon push through from below, brightening everything that came before. The animalic accord lingers last, close to the skin, intimate. On most skin types, expect 4-6 hours with moderate sillage, present without announcing itself.
Cultural impact
Amethyst Khozam has built a loyal following among enthusiasts who appreciate its versatility across cooler seasons. The composition strikes a balance between the brand's traditional Arabian foundations and a more globally accessible aromatic profile, a bridge between what the house is known for and what a wider audience might expect from a contemporary unisex fragrance. The lavender-forward approach earned respect from those who value both classic aromatic traditions and modern perfumery sensibilities.
